I was at Suncor today, and was walking into the security building to fill out some paperwork. I walked under a cantilevered portion of the roof, and my peripheral vision caught some movement of something falling. I stopped and looked down and didn't see anything, so I continued on. Standing in line at security, I felt a tickle near my ear on the side of my neck. I reached my hand up and found one of these little feckers attached to my finger. My instinctual reaction was to scream like a little girl and flail my hands in fear. Luckily the beetle flew off, made a cracking sound, and ended up under a visitor chair in security - dead to the world from it's sudden stop from near supersonic speeds. My craven reaction was the only thing that saved my toe from being eaten whole by this vicious monster.
I made the mistake when I got home to look up what these little feckers look like on the internet, and now I am trying to figure out how to explain to my wife why I used 3 pairs of underwear today....
I have attached an image of a tar-sand beetle. To put his size in perspective, he is standing next to a large oak tree which he just knocked over.
I can now say that I have too fears in life. Snakes, and the tar-sand beetle. Eeech.
